Key Visual
Uniting the past, present and future of fashion, CENTRESTAGE 2018 is home to 230 international brands and a line-up of about 40 captivating events. Raising the curtain on opening night, the CENTRESTAGE ELITES opening gala show celebrated a trio of designer labels as they paraded their latest collections on the runway.

"As a first timer here at CENTRESTAGE, let’s just say how blown away I am by the incredible local designers I’ve met and the informative WGSN trend talks I got to attend on my first day here. I’ve gained so much more knowledge as a writer by learning about the future of fashion for the upcoming AW19/20 seasons. For instance, street style will still be in! My other most memorable moments so far was meeting the founders of Hong Kong brand, YLY studio on their uprising. Not only are they a powerful creative duo but their designs are the perfect way to be OTT in your looks but in a subtle type of way.

Take notes on the trends you see on the runway too. I noticed a sea of boldness in colours and silhouettes portrayed in this year’s CENTRESTAGE ELITES opening gala show and Fashion Hong Kong Runway Show. Uses of bright pastels, neon, prints with an andro-feminine feel with a tiny touch of romance is what I’m here for! Looking forward to seeing more over the next few days!"

Exhibitors’ Echo

"Last year I attended the show as a visitor. At its third edition, our association has introduced a selection of Italian brands at CENTRESTAGE. It is notable that the show keeps growing in terms of scale and its importance as an event in the Asia-Pacific region. The role of Hong Kong as the regional hub is shown through the presence of worldwide buyers here. Although the show is young, the HKTDC has rich experience and a strong commitment in organising international events. CENTRESTAGE is well-positioned as the event exclusive for fashion brands that primarily target potential buyers from department stores and multi-brand stores. The show is well-organised where we can see lots of effort contributed from the host."

Alberto Scaccioni, CEO,

"A united effort by Berlin Showroom, the Austrian Fashion Association and Mode Suisse, DACH Showroom is committed to taking young, emerging and established designers' brands from Austria, Germany and Switzerland to the world stage of fashion. Hong Kong is the first stop for us to explore opportunities and partnerships outside Europe. At CENTRESTAGE, we are happy with the networking arrangement that buyers' tours came to our booth to learn about our showroom, projects and designers' brands. Some buyers revisited us for more information. Thanks to the business matching service, a New York buyer of boutique stores had already selected some styles from one of our brands, and he will soon place his final order after the catalogue of the full collection is sent to him. We also met some buyers from Italian multi-brand stores which carry well-known labels as well as Chinese buyers of both physical and online stores."

Nada Lahjomri, Showroom Manager,
AFA Agency / DACH SHOWROOM, Europe

"Established in 2016, CLÁSSICO MODERNO is a menswear brand offering both formal and runway collections. As one of the many emerging brands in Macao, we are eager to participate in any large-scale show like CENTRESTAGE. Last year I was a visitor here and the event was highly recommended by counterparts who reaped the benefits from business matching meetings where they met with professional and serious buyers from Europe and the Chinese mainland. Therefore, we have a high expectation on the pre-arranged meetings through the HKTDC. As a visitor last year and an exhibitor this year, I have been pretty impressed with the show's annual theme which created a good vibe for photo-taking. CENTRESTAGE features a string of runway shows and seminars which are complementary with fashion displays at the booths. We can take interested buyers to our runway show in order to give them the idea of different mix-and-match styles. All in all, the event is comprehensive."

Buyers' Commentary

"Barneys Japan operates six Barneys New York flagship stores in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe and Fukuoka across Japan, selling a great variety of men’s and women’s apparel and accessories. The brands we carry mainly come from Europe and the United States, followed by Japanese designer collections. This is my first visit to CENTRESTAGE to find new designer brands. I’ve found some interesting designs here. The menswear brand PURPLE showcased by nano-secc showroom looks really nice. I also like the women’s fashion designs of Hong Kong brands like ANGUS TSUI and Pat Guzik that blend well with special prints and quality fabrics. I will discuss further with our buying team in Japan to carry these new brands and explore collaboration with the designers to develop new collections. CENTRESTAGE is a perfect showcase of new designer brands and offers a good chance to understand the diverse fashion culture in Hong Kong."

Mitsuo Nakahashi, Merchandising Fashion Director,
Barneys Japan Co., Ltd., Japan

"With a history of about 10 years, Wonder Place is Korea’s biggest multi-brand fashion retailer. We currently operate a chain of 60 stores across the country selling a wide range of fashion and accessories. Major customers range from teenagers to those in their mid-20s. Besides Korean brands, we source overseas brands mainly through Korean distributors. CENTRESTAGE is an eye-opening experience for me, with so many brands and designers gathering here to explore business opportunities. So far, I’ve got in touch with 10 brands from different places including Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Thailand and Italy. I like the menswear collections of Japanese brand 1+1=3 and another overseas brand SWATSKY. They boast good design and quality with a reasonable pricing. We expect to place orders worth about US$10,000 each with them in one month’s time, involving different items like T shirts, sweat shirts, jackets and pants."

Park Jerome, Senior Assistant,
Brand Development, Wonder Place, Korea

"D-unit is running seoulstore.com, Korea’s leading fashion e-tailer, selling a wide range of fashion products. We offer over 700 brands on our online platform. About 80% of them are Korean brands and the remaining are overseas brands. I am visiting CENTRESTAGE for the first time to explore business cooperation with new designers. Several brands have been identified already such as CARBALI’s menswear and Lapeewee’s women’s collection, both from Hong Kong. Others include M)phosis from Singapore and I.N.K from Macau. We will look into the possibility of Korean KOLs and showbiz artists teaming with these designer brands to create online contents. We will also explore the licensing opportunities of Korean cartoon characters with Baleno Sports. These designer brands will send us more information about their collections and the pricing details. This is a professionally-run show and the fairground has been well designed."

Park Hyong Kyu, Director,
D-unit Co., Ltd, Korea
